With millions still unemployed, the consequences of the Arab Spring still uncertain, global climate change drenching and darkening large swaths of the planet on the reg, not to mention the unholy alliance of Disney and Lucasfilm, Once More with Geekery feels it is an obligation and honor to endorse Joss Whedon and Nathan Fillion for not only leadership of the executive branch of the American government, but benevolent overlords of the planet (as well as any other inhabited worlds to be discovered later).
Joss Whedon is brilliant, resourceful (he made Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog lemonade out of the lemon of the 2007-2008 Writers Strike), and politically astute. He also likes women, gay people, and anyone brave and ballsy enough to fight against injustice and oppression. (See Buffy, Buffy, and Firefly.) Additionally, I believe the last ginger president we had was Thomas Jefferson--and everyone seems to remember him fairly well.
As running mate, Nathan Fillion brings a welcome (though Constitutionally tricky) plucky Canuck spirit to the President and Planetary Overlord ticket. Fillion is well-known for surprising, and charming the crap out of, audiences at comic book conventions the country over. Is it really that big of a step to state funerals? And, if a vice-presidential attack dog is what you're after, who better to tap than Captain Hammer?
If blogs could vote, Once More with Geekery would be proud to stand behind Whedon/Fillion 2012. And we'll be pressing for a Constitutional Amendment to that effect. But until that glorious day, blog writers and readers can already enjoy the civic privilege and responsibility of casting a ballot. Early voting ends tomorrow, and the big day is the 7th, so please make time to stand up for the candidate that you feel best represents this country's promise of equality, freedom, justice, and belief in the power of creativity and self-expression.
